Tony advised listeners to just do the best they can.

Jill urged listeners to make their partner their priority.

For sure you are both kind people. That’s my vote on that.

As far as undivided attention, it’s an issue with Denis and me. I make comments to him and get no response—I ask him questions and get no response. When I press him, he says it was a rhetorical question. I think I usually acknowledge remarks and questions not judging whether they are rhetorical or not. I hate my remarks to fall against a wall of silence—no kidding that’s how it feels to me. I’m trying to get over it. Maybe it was all the years of phone work I did in which we were trained in active listening. He says he’s working or thinking about something and has to complete the thought before he can answer me. In the meantime I don’t know if he’s even heard me.

Denis can concentrate on one thing to the point of not hearing while I’m more easily distracted. In fact when I’m working on something like writing, I need absolute quiet—no TV, music, or comments from Denis. Lol. Maybe we just have to know our partners and figure out the most effective way to get through to them. And as Tony says maybe all we can about our own attention is the best we are able.

We like your vote on us. We think you and Denis are both kind people, too. We agree that yes, we just have to know our partners and determine the most effective way to get through to them. One day, we will have you on as our podcast guests, so that everyone can learn from you.
