For the Love of Editing

My love for editing started when I found myself getting giddy if I could spot typos in my work or someone else’s.
That grew into my becoming a reader who writes, a close reader of craft if you will.

Since then, I have combined these two skills and loves by working as either a developmental or line editor of several manuscripts for established and first-time authors. I also have experience editing book proposals for nonfiction writers.

Proofreading

I find your typos and grammatical mistakes. No homework assignments.

Developmental Editor

For book-length works in which I look at big picture elements. That means I look for craft, story, and structural issues, plus all the things listed for line editing. For this service, I will edit two versions of your manuscript.

Sensitivity Reader

In this role, I do not proofread or line or developmental edit. Instead, I look for bias, racism, sexism or anything that could be offensive to Black people, especially women. I offer solutions.

Book Proposal Developmental Editor

$500 flat fee for book proposals in which I check to make sure you’ve thoroughly provided the details and sections that most agents and editors request in their submissions guidelines. For this service, I will provide comments and suggestions in Microsoft Word’s Track changes. Once you’ve had a chance to review all of my notes, you will get to revise it and send it back. I will then do a second pass on your work. We’ll conclude the process with a call to talk about my observations of that version.
