A healthy relationship means enjoying time together but also being willing to allow time away from each other. What is the saying? Something about if you want to hold on to someone, set him/her free. All of us have at least one or probably more interests not shared with partners. Then there’s the girlfriend issue. It seems most women have more close friends than men, the nature of the beast? I think Denis likes it when I spend time nattering with girlfriends because he’s not interested in what we go on about, and he has enough to keep him occupied in my absence. I like it because I need to talk about girly issues.

We love this comment, and we agree that women tend to have more close friends. Jill likes discussing girly issues with her friends too.

This led to another discussion…friends as a resource. Does it say something negative about a relationship if one partner has a far greater number of active friendships? Are friends a resource like money or intelligence? I know that if most of the money or most of the intelligence is in the hands of one partner, problems are sure to follow.

We hadn’t considered this angle, but you’re right. Hmmm… we may have to do an episode about that. Stay tuned.
